Fiber Optics Pigtails
What is Fiber Optics Pigtails?
In fiber optics the name pigtail refer to a short length of fiber optics of size 900 micron.
One end of the fiber optics is terminated with connector and the other end is left as an open end for splicing or termination with incoming fiber optics cable.
The fiber optics short length could be either of Singlemode or Multimode type in which ORANGE color refers to Multimode and YELLOW color refer to Singlemode type.
The normal fiber optics short length is between 1.0 meter to 1.5 meter.
Types of fiber optics connectors to be terminated at one end of fiber optics pigtails has to be decided and confirmed before placing an order. The common type of connectors to be terminated are of ST, SC, FC and LC.
Where fiber optics pgitails commonly being installed or applied?
They are commonly installed inside fiber termination box either wall mount type or 19" drawable patch panels.
Due to 900micron thickness of fiber optics buffer (coating), all fiber optics pigtails are kept only inside the fiber optics patchpanels for protection purpose.
